Office romance in the Web 2.0 era

A recent survey by Vault.com found that office romances are in full bloom, with nearly 60 percent of workers having been involved in office dating, up from 46 percent three years ago. And 38 percent of those polled know of an ongoing office romance.

"Adding a new wrinkle to the workplace romance issue is the growing popularity of social and professional networking sites, such as LinkedIn, MySpace and Friendster, that make the time it takes for an office romance to bud about as fast as your Internet connection," said John A. Challenger, chief executive officer of global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Study: IT sabotage, work behavior linked

According to recent research by the U.S. military and CERT, workers who sabotage corporate systems are almost always IT workers who are "disgruntled, paranoid, generally show up late, argue with colleagues, and generally perform poorly."

Owners of Tivo Inc.'s popular digital video recorders (DVR) will soon be able to download films and television shows for rental and purchase from Amazon.com Inc., the two companies announced Wednesday.

Ticketmaster offers ticket buyers free iTunes songs
Camping out for concert tickets has never been less attractive. With sales for summer concerts about to begin, IAC/Interactive Corp.'s Ticketmaster ticketing service will give free music from Apple's iTunes Music Store to everyone who purchases event tickets at its Web site, Ticketmaster said Wednesday.

Video games can improve your vision, study finds
Researchers from the University of Rochester in New York found that people who play video games for a few hours a day over the course of a month can improve certain aspects of their vision by about 20 percent.

IT most stressful?

My Sunday paper's JobCenter section had an interesting headline: 'IT Is Most Stressful Job, Survey Says.' Are folks in IT stressed? Sure. Are they more stressed than soldiers in Iraq? I doubt it. Is IT more stressful than the number two profession listed in the survey, which is Medicine? Probably not. So how did IT come to rank as the most stressful job?
